The MISSION of the SaddleBrooke Genealogy Club is to promote interest in the study of genealogy, to help others in their pursuit of ancestors and to encourage fellowship among the members.
The SaddleBrooke Genealogy Club is open to all SaddleBrooke residents who wish to research their ancestors. The membership consists of people just beginning their research and people who have a great deal of experience in ancestral research. Membership is limited to residents of HOA #1 and HOA #2. Dues are $20 per individual and $30 per couple for the year, June 1 to May 31. Residents are invited to attend two meetings before becoming a dues paying member. Meetings are held the first Thursday of each month at 1:00 PM in the Coyote Room of the SaddleBrooke Clubhouse. When you search for ancestors, you find great friends!

For years I had been curious about my ancestors but didn't know how to get started, so nothing happened. Two years ago the SaddleBrooke Genealogy Club offered genealogy classes for beginners for the first time. Wow! What a kick start to a fascinating journey of knowledge. I jumped in with both feet. I poured over census records by the hour. I never knew that I could have so much fun on the computer or in a library, or that so many people are willing to help me.
I discovered that there are 5 generations of direct ancestors buried within 10 miles of where I grew up. I found an ancestor who was hung during the Salem witch trials. I discovered that my husband and I are 9th cousins. I found that my ethnic mix was not what I had assumed. I have met several distant cousins, both online and in person, who are helping with my search. A fourth cousin that I met in Canada last year is going to Germany this summer to track down more of “our” people.
In a nutshell, I have found genealogy to be a very satisfying and intellectually stimulating hobby. And I am learning tons about history and geography along the way, sparking my brain cells. Mostly it is the fun of the hunt, and learning more about who I am. The search goes on.
